Series: Lilith's Redemption #1
The first epic saga of the tale of history's first woman, Lilith. An ancient legend spanning back to the beginning of time, before there was Adam and Eve, there was Adam and Lilith. Lilith has lived a life of rebellion and chaos, birthing a race of half-demons known as the Lilim. Lilith's human avatar, Laylah Rodriguez must hunt these wayward demons to restore balance with Heaven and Earth
In the dying city of Headmoore, Laylah Rodriguez hunts the predators that stalk the night. She hunts the demonic children of Lilith, the ancient being whose soul is entwined with her own. Yet on her quest she unravels secrets about the demons she hunts and the purpose behind it that forces her to question everything she ever believed.
Determined to see this quest through to the end, Laylah takes on the darkest of creatures while her surrogate family does their best to support her.
Ultimately, Laylah realizes she must find the answers alone...
There's regret, abuse, anger and the need for forgiveness. Lilith has had a lot of time to build up her regrets and she's looking for a reason to keep going. I was also pleased to see a few cameos from the notorious Eve.
Lilith has a rag-tag team of friends who've been saved from horrendous situations. They're kind of like a Scooby-Do team in a Tim Burton-esque way. I also like how Lilith's origin story is told by an old woman who seems to know Lilith (a woman much older than her) more than Lilith knows herself. It created a feeling of irony.
It wasn't a difficult read though it's certainly not a YA. There are many dark themes throughout, which there should be, it's about demons and their mother after all. A mother who will gladly kill every last one of her children.
A few moments of melodrama held this back but otherwise I think the character development was excellent and the lore was beyond my expectations.
