Deamhan have survived by remaining hidden in the shadows. Ramanga, Lamia, Metusba, and Lugat have been overshadowed by what humans know as the modern vampire. But what if vampires aren't the real threat?
One woman's search for her mother who disappeared without a trace on the streets of Minneapolis takes her into the precarious world of Deamhan, psychic vampires who rule the underground nightlife in the city's most darkest corners.
She gains the trust of the only other human familiar with the Deamhan lifestyle. With his help she finds not only can the Deamhan not be trusted but it s her own father, president of a ruthless organization of researchers, who has diabolically maintained that distrust.
Remy, of course, is the hunky deamhan who gives Veronica a run for her hormonal-money whenever he gets a chance, but he wasn't the forefront of the story, which was refreshing.
The story does have a few drawn out scenes, and redundant information, but most people probably don't read a book all in one day, so they'd be friendly reminders.
When it came to the structure of the paranormal elements I found a few portions to be a bit muddy. The distinct differences between deamhan and vampire were so thin that they sometimes crossed streams and I wasn't sure if an attacker/or friend was a deamhan or a vampire. The four different kinds of deamhan were also a bit confusing. I couldn't always remember which were blood-thirsty, psychic-energy-thirsty etc. That all being said, Alexia I think could have taken them all if she wasn't so dedicated to her maker. She was one badass vampire.
