The pacing was well done, with the breakneck speed to begin with followed by a steady gallop through the middle as we were given hints about Zack's past, and I was given a look into the world of angels, demons, and tribes. I lacked how it strayed away from the holy religious portion of it and created its own, believable niche.
Every character felt fleshed out. They each hair their quirks, and distinctive voices within the novel. Zack has some unusual siblings, but it was also what made them so interesting to learn about. Also, Lil's presence was great. She was the female counterpart but the author thankfully avoiding filling the pages with a budding romance. There was some sexual tension, but with Lailah still missing, it gave an excuse to avoid it. It's not that I'm against romances within a story, but I hate when it overtakes the plot and main goals of the characters. The author did a fantastic job of balancing everything, I felt
